Where do I start?
I understand it can be scary if you want to start trail running, cycling or hiking but you donβt know where to start. These two links are a great place to start. Facebook is another place to ask of advice on local routes. Most areas have a local home group on Facebook and that is a great place to post for suggestions on places you can explore. Your local park, river walks, Nature reserves. These are all great places to start. Buy a map of you local area and have a look on that. Most areas have some form of trails you can use, and with a little help you could be enjoying them.
Parkrun
DON'T WORRY, If youβre just starting out you don't have to run. It is fine to walk while you build up confidence and fitness, and it's free. They take place on a Saturday morning and are all over the UK. You need to register online, you get a bar code to download and that's it. They are friendly, helpful and supportive. AllTrails app and Garmin
This is a great app. Itβs free to use, although there is a paid version if you want more options. It shows you routs in different areas and gives you information about each route. You can search by area, by Trail running, Biking or hiking. You can search for the app on the play store to have a look at the website on this link. https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/
If you have a Garmin device then there are some great routes on there web site and is certainly worth a visit. https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/
Food for thought. Remember to get the most out of your trails firstly you need to eat right and get a good nights sleep. A good balanced dinner the night before and a decent breakfast. Pack food for the trail and plan a good balanced meal when you get back to help with recovery. Plenty of hydration while you are out and try putting a hydration tablet in your water to help keep you going. Enjoy the trails.
A delicious and filling breakfast that is best made the evening before and kept in the fridge overnight ready for a quick start when you are eager to get out on the trails.
Overnight Oats.
Recipe
1/2 a banana
30 grams porridge oats
129 grams Unsweetened Almond milk
20 grams protein powder
40 grams of blueberries
Method
Mash the banana in a bowl
Add the Oats, Almond milk and the protein powder and mix together
Leave in the fridge overnight
Add the blueberries just before eating. Either sprinkle over the top or mix into the rest of the mixture
If you donβt like the mixture to cold you can pop it into the microwave for a few seconds just before eating.
